Battle Expectation

She couldn’t stop the emotion this time. Her face flushed, her eyes filled, and she was afraid to go on. But she did go on, even as her voice broke, as tears ran down her cheeks, as her body began to quake. “Jesus…I want you to come into my heart. I want you to forgive me. Please forgive me.”

All around her, like spokes of a wondrous wheel, like beams of light emanating from a sun, angelic blades lay flat upon the ground, their tips turned toward her, their handles extending outward, held in the strong fist of hundreds of noble warriors who knelt in perfect, concentric circles of glory, light, and worship, their heads to the ground, their wings stretching skyward like a flourishing, animated garden of flames. They were silent, their hearts filled with a holy dread…The Lamb of God stood among them…He had come to be the Savior of this woman. He knew her by name; and speaking her name, He touched her. And her sins were gone.

Outside that hedge, thrown there like garbage into a dumpster, Despair, Death, Insanity, Suicide and Fear (her demons) sulked in the bushes, unable to return.

This excerpt from Frank Peretti’s Piercing the Darkness reveals a vibrant picture of the events that take place every time a person receives salvation in Jesus Christ and their name is written in the Book of Life—and it portrays the reality of the spiritual realm…a realm where you have a role!

Second Corinthians 10:4 declares that “the weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” Ephesians 6:14-17 gives us a glimpse at these weapons.

The “belt of truth and the breastplate of righteousness” can help us become more of a person of integrity. Our “feet fitted with readiness that comes from the gospel of peace” allows us to stand firm at all times and be aware of the attacks that may come our way. Our “shield of faith to extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one” helps us to defend our beliefs and stand for what is right—and the “helmet of salvation and sword of the spirit, which is the word of God” is what we can use to guide us throughout our lives. Our salvation can stay strong under the protection of our solid helmet.

The lyrics to an old hymn shed more light onto our role as believers in Jesus:

Onward Christian soldiers, marching as to war
With the cross of Jesus, going on before.
Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe
Forward into battle see his banners go!

Crowns and thrones may parish, kingdoms rise and wane,
But the church of Jesus constant will remain.
Gates of hell can never ‘gainst that church prevail
We have Christ’s own promise, and that cannot fail

Analyze the state of your personal spiritual warfare armor. Are you putting it all to use? When people see you, are they witnessing the fullness of the strength God has vested in you?

We are in His army. He has provided us with the perfect armor to fight the enemy. The Bible gives us our direction and a battle plan. With the cross of Jesus before us, no person or force of evil can defeat us! And the best part is—we know how the war is going to end.

“As surely as I live,” says the Lord, “every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.” (Romans 14:11)

I am anchored in the expectation of His battle plan. Are you?

I love the armor of God talk because it’s so true. We are in direct contact with God the Father when we pray. Does it get any better than that ?

I love this reminder Wendy, as I often forget the weapons we already have at our fingertips with Christ.
